v2.0 Alpha


Basically I wanted to implement a few more changes before releasing "1.2" as I detailed in my last devlog.

I've been programming this tool while hosting my own campaign. Some maps I've made have been distorted via various changes to the backend of battlemapper, so I won't upload them before I fix those, but I'm satisfied with the practiced utility of the general idea of the tool.

This update is focusing on rewriting the whole backend, whole frontend, and whole darn shebang.

Why did it take so long? I've rewritten essentially everything in the tool and... not all of them were good rewrites.

Many things I wrote had to be cut or rewritten, or had the privilege of being cut and replaced by something far better, and many things have not quite been completed. I'm not going to get into the details, I should have a few things done before the full v2.0 release but, many of the things I have PLANNED will not be ready until v3 at the soonest.

This alpha features essentially a practical demo of the final tool, with all of the buggy features temporarily disabled. The beta, which will come next, should contain ALL features planned for v2.0, in whatever state of bugginess they are in, though they should all theoretically work.

If you do not depend on the Line tool, or the DRAWING system for shapes at all, you might as well upgrade to this alpha for the time being.

now, to shatter your definitely-existent dreams.

What WON'T be in the full v2.0 update:

  • Project-based file management
  • Importing/Exporting of maps
  • Map Sequencing
  • World Compilation
  • A full, PROPER UI scaling replacement
  • HTML port
  • Rich console/scripting/tag system
  • Rich entities (maybe actually. but probably not. maybe 2.1, 2.2?)
  • There was another thing but I forgot what it was.

It's also unlikely I'll finish any new objects or tools before the final v2.0 comes out. It's essentially the penultimate QOL update for a terrible tool I originally made in a week.

I'm only one guy! And I'm young! Don't expect me to break my back and wrists writing this stupid thing. There is still much to do, and if this project gets any kind of attention I SWEAR BY MY WORD! that I will actually keep working towards v3. But I'm not gonna pour this much work into a tool no one's gonna use, and, I know it has some rough edges, but I use this for my campaign and it's not too bad.





(Please be forgiving on the new font and button scales, I changed those like an hour before this and while they look better they also look very misaligned)



I won't be posting a changelog until the final release. Nor docs. Nor changing the itch.io images. Nor updating the logo with "redux" as I plan to. Sorry lol. There's some great new stuff though!
